According to the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) report "Empowering Cities for a Net-Zero Future," digitalization enables cities to establish a range of distributed energy and flexibility platforms that can accelerate the achievement of net-zero emissions. These platforms play a crucial role in energy transition, from Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) and data analytics for distribution networks to the integration of electric vehicles and public transportation systems. Deploying these digital platforms closer to demand centers enhances efficiency, reduces the need for extensive grid infrastructure, and better balances supply and demand.
In response to this, our team has organized this forum, bringing together government officials, experts, scholars, and industry representatives from Taiwan and abroad. By drawing insights from international experiences in virtual power plant development, we aim to explore strategic approaches for advancing VPP initiatives in Taiwan. Through the expansion of VPP operations, we hope to enhance grid resilience, accelerate urban energy transition, and move towards a sustainable net-zero future.
