In recent years, countries worldwide have actively introduced the concept of Smart Park, aiming to enhance operational efficiency in these areas by integrating next-generation information and communication technologies and Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIOT). The goal is to meet the requirements of sustainable development, establishing a green and smart industrial park model. This model not only improves service operations in Smart Park but also balances ecological and social needs while responding to economic and industrial development.
From an observation of the planning and construction of Smart Park worldwide, there is a focus on integrating underground public utilities, wireless networks, and monitoring systems for air and water quality in terms of information and communication infrastructure. Additionally, the emphasis is on deploying smart streetlights and other public infrastructure, with the introduction of a smart park cloud platform serving as the core for intelligent Smart Park management. Establishing energy monitoring and management systems within the park, such as carbon tracking and matching with renewable energy sources, through cloud-based energy control, helps in achieving zero-carbon management and appropriate allocation of green energy. This drives the dual transformation of green and smart within the Smart Park.
Under the leadership of the National Science and Technology Council, Taiwan's major science parks have embarked on an unprecedented journey towards intelligence and sustainable development in recent years, aiming to enhance the efficiency of infrastructure services. County and city governments have also initiated the development of smart industrial parks. Projects such as the Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City promoted by the central government and Economic Development Bureau, Tainan City Government, the Maichuohou Smart Park in Chiayi County scheduled for completion in 2025, and the second-phase development of the Baogao Science and Intellectual Park in New Taipei City are currently underway, marking the beginning of a new paradigm in domestic industrial park development.
The 2024 Smart City Summit & Expo will invite domestic science parks and county/city Smart Park to share experiences in implementing smart applications to drive digital and net-zero transformations in industrial parks. It will also provide a platform for exchanging ideas on future directions and challenges for continued application development.
