Tainan City Autonomous Bus Experimentation Project
Solution Description
Shortage of bus drivers and frequent overtime shifts have long been issues among bus service operators. This is where self-driving technology can bring in revolutionary change to city transportation. The technology can address existing problems and challenges in a number of areas, including driver shortage, shift length, road safety, vehicle dispatch, and rural area transportation.
Two demo routes are planned in this project: the Southern Taiwan Science Park Train Station - Museum of Archeology, Tainan Branch of National Museum of Prehistory Circle and Shalun Green Energy Science City Circle. The self-driving buses utilize vehicle sensors, smart roadside equipment, and high-definition maps to drive on open roads, and the public is invited to test-ride the buses in February and March this year (2021). For the next phase, bus service operators will take over and officially operate the commercial bus routes. Service routes may be expanded according to execution results.
