Prof. Ming-Yen Lin’s Team – A Prediction Model for Type 2 Diabetes Complications Our research group develops a decision-support prediction model for type 2 diabetes complications using data from over 163,000 Taiwanese patients. Integrating age, HbA1c, and other dynamic factors, the model estimates long-term risks of major complications and mortality, visualizes future trends, and supports personalized care planning to improve disease management and outcomes.

This project is deployed in a large-scale fish farming area in southern Taiwan, where ponds are widely distributed and geographically fragmented, creating challenges for long-distance network connectivity and real-time surveillance. The solution utilizes fiber optic links as the backbone to ensure stable long-range transmission across the site. EAP610-Outdoor wireless access points are deployed to extend network coverage through a mesh architecture, effectively reducing the need for repetitive cabling. For surveillance, the system integrates an NVR4032H with InSight S345 and InSight S345ZI bullet cameras, delivering stable and reliable video transmission. Combined with PoE switches, this solution establishes a flexible, efficient, and reliable network and intelligent surveillance infrastructure tailored for aquaculture management.

To establish a civil participation mechanism to widely gather opinions from all sectors, the National Development Council has established the "Just Transition Commission." The committee follows a principle of equal representation between governmental agencies and civil society. Members serve a term of two years. The government agency representatives on the committee are deputy ministers from ministries responsible for the 12 key strategies of the 2050 net-zero transition and related issues of just transition. In addition, the members of the civil society include citizen groups focused on environmental, labor, and indigenous issues, as well as representatives from social enterprises and experts/scholars in the field of economic industries. The committee has four working groups: an academic group, a strategic review group, an issue identification group and an influence group. The public-private partnership will work together to promote a net-zero fair transition. Smart Multifunctional Periodontal Pathology Quick Screening System (SMPPQSS) is the first product able to automatically identify the position of teeth and then to calculate the distribution area of dental plaque simultaneously. The system also provides a new painless gingivitis examination method that could relief examining discomfort. Neither the need of the plaque disclosing tablet nor a probe to penetrate into the patient’s periodontal pocket to determine the degree of periodontitis. Once all tooth-related data is automatically filled into the periodontal digits, the medical record sheet is uploaded to the system directly. It shortens the process to less than 10 minutes, greatly reducing the discomfort of patients during the examination as well as shortening the time doctors need to diagnose and record. SMPPQSS is easy to operate and portable. Dentists or dental assistants can check periodontal health quickly with no restriction of facilities, patients can receive a more convenient medical care even in remote rural areas or at home, or with limited mobility.
