Prof. Ming-Yen Lin’s Team – A Prediction Model for Type 2 Diabetes Complications Our research group develops a decision-support prediction model for type 2 diabetes complications using data from over 163,000 Taiwanese patients. Integrating age, HbA1c, and other dynamic factors, the model estimates long-term risks of major complications and mortality, visualizes future trends, and supports personalized care planning to improve disease management and outcomes.

There are three applications: [Guardian Wristband] Authority can know whether home quarantine people are at home. Through the beacon wristband connects with receiver. If home quarantine people are leaving home, the system will send notification to the authority. [Indoor Navigation] Locate users’ position via Bluetooth and precede indoor navigation to let users know their position and find the way in building. This project integrates cable TV systems, Civil IoT, and AI video recognition technology to build smart disaster prevention and site safety services. Centered on set-top boxes (STB) and intelligent sensing, the solution focuses on bridging the gap in real-time information and safety protection for elderly and rural populations. Through its wired network infrastructure, the system developed under this project is capable of delivering real-time disaster prevention information, including earthquakes, typhoons, and heavy rainfall alerts. In addition, AI-based recognition capabilities have been integrated into the system. Currently, the system has completed event recognition functions such as parcel placement and retrieval detection. It also performs analysis of human movement trajectories and abnormal group behavior detection. In the future, the system will be further expanded to identify dangerous situations such as violent behavior. Through this project, Taiwan Optical Platform (TOP) demonstrates the potential of integrating cable television networks with AI and IoT technologies to develop a platform for smart disaster prevention and public safety applications.

Second, if a target crosses the virtual perimeter or enters restricted areas, the system instantly identifies illegal intrusion and pushes alerts and live footage to the control center or homeowner. Entering the active countermeasure stage, the system can lock access doors, activate outdoor lighting, and enforce tracking to isolate intruders. If threats persist, the highest‑level electronic deterrence is deployed: high‑decibel alarms to draw attention, intense strobe lighting to disorient intruders, and automatic connection to police or security services to secure external support within the critical response window. Traffic approach warning system is the combination of smart detectors and LED warning signs. The intersection is divided into detection lanes and warning lanes. Smart detectors are installed on the detection lanes. When a vehicle enters the detection area, the signal is transmitted to activate the LED signs on the warning lane to warn drivers to slow down in advance.
