The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industrial Technology Bureau, has commissioned the Smart Sensing and System Technology Center at the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) to develop a "Composite Water Quality Sensing System." This system enables simultaneous measurement and detection of parameters such as Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Suspended Solid Concentration (SS), Copper Ion (Cu2+) concentration, conductivity, pH value, temperature, and more. Employing UV light sterilization, it inhibits the attachment and growth of biological films on the sensing interface, preventing interference with sensor accuracy and extending the sensor cleaning cycle. With a design incorporating water sampling, optimized power management technology, and reduced reliance on frequent manual maintenance, the system achieves long-term operational efficiency. It has been successfully applied in various settings, including industrial zones, aquaculture, chemical plating lines, metal electroplating industries, and landfill sites. The system provides intelligent wastewater discharge management and real-time monitoring of processes, meeting the demands of low-carbon management and waste reduction.

DA-TUN CABLE TV leverages its advantages in fiber optic infrastructure to assist the digital transformation of Wu Fong Golf Course into Taiwan's first 5G smart golf course. This project integrates several innovative technology applications, including drone inspection services, MR batting assistance, environmental maintenance with unmanned lawn mowers, and health and safety monitoring with wearable devices. By utilizing the enhanced mobile broadband, ultra-reliable and low latency communications, and massive machine type communications features of the 5G private network, an outdoor 5G private network verification field is established. It also serves as the critical transmission foundation for the real-time work order management system, addressing labor shortages and management issues commonly faced by traditional golf courses, while enhancing operational efficiency, safety, and user experience at the golf course.

Live crowd movement information is crucial in busy public spaces. Manual checks and basic sensors often lack accuracy and fail to keep up with real-time changes. The People Counting System uses AI video analytics and multi-sensor fusion. It delivers accurate, real-time crowd data. The system automatically counts people, tracks direction, monitors density, and provides instant alerts and reports. Deep learning ensures accuracy in low-light or crowded conditions. Multi-target tracking prevents double-counting. Edge computing and cloud-based management enable on-site analysis and long-term monitoring. Integrating cameras, infrared, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth data improves detection and increases coverage. The system generates real-time heat maps, flow analyses, and historical records. These support layout optimization, entry regulation, evacuation planning, and efficiency. The system serves malls, transit hubs, campuses, parks, and public buildings. It is vital for smart cities. It replaces manual counting with intelligent management for better safety, responsiveness, and adaptability.

“Chia-E Smart Patrol Car” utilizes AI image recognition and mobile edge computing technology to automatically compare license plate recognition results with stolen vehicles’ blacklist in real-time. If a match is found, patrol officers will be notified immediately by voice warning, so that they can stop the vehicle for investigation. By implementing technology, “Chia-E Smart Patrol Car” can improve the efficiency of investigation, maintain public safety, and maximize the effectiveness of patrolling.

The Ministry of Environment has promoted the deployment and application of the Internet of Things for empty product sensing since 2017, and has deployed approximately 10,000 sensors to make up for the deficiencies in time and spatial resolution of standard monitoring stations. Among them, in 2022, it expanded from the Taiwan island to Lienchiang County on the outlying Island. Its unique geographical location is more conducive to early warning of transboundary pollutants and reminds people to take precautions in advance.

Nearly one-third of the population in Yunlin County are first-tier industrial workers, mainly agricultural planting and fishery breeding. Through the inventory of various key program modules of scientific and technological agriculture and through service and product design, the six-tier digital system has been completed. It has been effectively improving the first-tier Industrial productivity and filling the gap in production instability, and receiving a solution for the lack of labor and the approval of the National Development Council Plan. This will also make Yunlin a place where cases of digital transformation and creation blooming. This service is introduced into multiple towns and villages in Yunlin County and 350 jobs have been created and about 320 million production value have been increased.The project won the 2022 “Smart City Innovation Application Awards".

Civil IoT Taiwan is part of the government’s Forward-looking Infrastructure Development Program under the Digital Construction initiative. With the collaborative efforts of the National Science Council, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Digital Affairs, and Academia Sinica, the project is jointly executed across departments, prioritizing four key areas: air quality, water resources, earthquakes, and disaster prevention and response. By leveraging artificial intelligence and IoT technologies, various smart living services are developed to assist the government and the public in jointly addressing the challenges brought by environmental changes. By combining the innovative power of industry, academia, and research, the project aims to develop the IoT industry ecosystem and export solutions internationally.

The project is expected to cut carbon emissions by 800 metric tons annually, with over 50% renewable energy self-sufficiency at aquaculture centers and demonstration farms. Meanwhile, livestock farms, offices, and dormitories now operate on 100% green energy, significantly lowering both energy costs and environmental impact.
