Prof. Ming-Yen Lin’s Team – A Prediction Model for Type 2 Diabetes Complications Our research group develops a decision-support prediction model for type 2 diabetes complications using data from over 163,000 Taiwanese patients. Integrating age, HbA1c, and other dynamic factors, the model estimates long-term risks of major complications and mortality, visualizes future trends, and supports personalized care planning to improve disease management and outcomes.

The innovative parking operations solution integrates AI-based Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), sensing devices, IoT infrastructure, and a cloud management platform. By streamlining parking management, reducing manual intervention, and providing actionable insights through real-time data, this solution helps parking operators maximize space utilization and enhance customer satisfaction with a transparent, data-driven, brilliant parking service. The system provides real-time visibility into vehicle entry and exit, space occupancy, and on-site traffic flow. It supports ticketless access and license plate–based payment. It also offers real-time parking guidance and multiple payment options. These features reduce labour costs and enhance the user parking experience. A centralized management platform and operational data analytics give operators insights into traffic patterns, space turnover, and revenue performance. This enables informed decisions on pricing strategies and space allocation. As a result, operators can achieve efficient, sustainable smart parking operations.

Criminal and street violence cases will affect and cause panic to citizens. In order to diminish street violence cases, reducing the time to solve these cases, protecting citizens’ lives and properties, and allow citizens to live without fear, the Kaohsiung City Police Department (KCPD) built the “3D Street Violence Early Warning, AI Intelligence Collection and Integration Platform” (hereinafter called “the Platform”). The platform utilizes the Internet of Things (IoT) to combine AI image recognition and sound sensing technologies for cross-domain big data analyses. KCPD established cross-platform data interfacing and integration, mainly through “data integration” and “network analyses” to collect with the municipal government’s transportation bureaus and social bureaus; and import existing data from the KCPD data platforms. The Platform will, through web service API, (a) retrieve data built by information systems, (b) conduct big data analysis, aggregate applicable intelligence data and present it in the form of dynamic information, (c) Integrate all information and display it as maps and topologies, improve case handling efficiency. According to KCPD employees’ query, they can adjust factor weights and relationships. Analyze the results based on rational mathematical models and professional case-handling concepts, so that intelligence analysis goes beyond the limitations of platform developers and allows criminal police to maximize their capabilities.

With the rise of smart cities and cloud technology, building security has evolved from traditional surveillance to AI‑driven proactive protection. Our electronic perimeter security solution establishes an invisible defense through five layers. First, AI visual recognition performs human detection and skeleton tracking, filtering out non‑human interference. When individuals linger in sensitive zones beyond a set threshold, the system triggers initial warnings via speakers and lighting. Second, if a target crosses the virtual perimeter or enters restricted areas, the system instantly identifies illegal intrusion and pushes alerts and live footage to the control center or homeowner. Entering the active countermeasure stage, the system can lock access doors, activate outdoor lighting, and enforce tracking to isolate intruders. If threats persist, the highest‑level electronic deterrence is deployed: high‑decibel alarms to draw attention, intense strobe lighting to disorient intruders, and automatic connection to police or security services to secure external support within the critical response window. This integrated solution combines AI, cloud, and building facilities to deliver early warning, confirmation, and counteraction—greatly enhancing the safety resilience of smart buildings.
