Smart Transportation Steering Group

The framework of Taipei Smart City takes “smart government” as the core value, and promotes “smart security”, “smart building”, “smart transportation”, “smart education”, “smart healthcare”, “smart environment”, and “smart economy” to be the blueprint for the future development. In order to achieve it, “1+7 smart city steering groups” were established. The steering group is led by the Department of Transportation, and cooperating with the Department of Information Technology, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, and outside experts. It is hoped that the city vision of safe, convenient, shared, and green can be achieved through smart technologies to enhance transport efficiency and minimize environmental impact.

Making taxi service safer and more effective

This project is co-operated by the Taipei city public transportation office and the Taipei urban intelligence center, and the main purpose is to find out the suitable location for the taxi stands. We use the origin- destination data of taxis, through Kernel density estimation and K-means clustering to classify the hot spots of taxi hailing and implement a evidence based solution for taxi stands.

AI Intelligent Traffic Control Application in Taipei
Taipei City has developed 45 intelligent intersections since 2020, including 21 intersections controlled by dynamic control system for congestion improvement and 24 intersections controlled by traffic -responsive signal control system for green time efficiency at intersections. The dynamic control system named PaSO Plus uses real-time traffic data from roadside detectors and compute important traffic parameters in a very short time to send dynamic signal plans to the onsite signals. In this way, the signals could adjust green time in repsonse to the real traffic demand to optimize the traffic flows in the control area and improve corridors travel time. The travel time of the main corridors - Keelung Road and Xinyi Road has been reduced by 7~16%, and the junction delay has been reduced by 10~20%. The traffic-responsive signal control system uses AI edge image reconition system and the pedestiran touch button to sense vehicles and pedestrians, and adjust phase split instantly. In this way, the waste time of stopped vehicles on the arterial road can be saved and pedestrian crossing intersections become safer.

The user could get information of bus arrival time and Push Notification of boarding/getting off service. ''Assist the visually impaired passengers to cross the road smoothly with IoT'' Setting up Bluetooth device at the intersection, so that users can automatically trigger the ''Audible pedestrian signal'' through the APP, and the information of the remaining time of pedestrian green light will display on the APP to assist the visually impaired can cross the intersection more safely.

Parkey Smart Motorcycle Rack: a automatic roadside motorcycle parking lots management system.
Parkey Smart Motorcycle Rack System is designed to apply in roadside motorcycle parking lots. With the integration of IoT techniques, the rack system can automatically issue parking tickets and provide real-time parking information. The system is made up of an automated payment machine, a smartphone app and a management platform and numerous parking racks. When a motorcycle is parked into the rack, the system will automatically lock and upload user information to the cloud. On the other hand, users are able to pay with either Parkey App or the automated payment machine beside the racks to unlock motorcycles. Above user and fare information will be synced with the city parking management agency.
